Most children grew up listening to their parents’ monologue, “Study hard. Get good grades so that you can get a good job and become successful later on.” This is not surprising since all parents want their children to be successful in life. When a family member gets sick, it is not just the sick individual who gets affected, the whole family gets affected as well. Aside from the emotional and psychological stress, it also affects the family lifestyle. Each member of the family plays a specific role. So, the presence of illness disrupts the everyday functioning of the family. For example, if the mother who prepares the meal for the family gets sick, someone else needs to take her place. If the person who gets sick is the head of the family, it may result to economic problems so somebody else needs to take over as the breadwinner.
