Home Remedies for Dry Skin

Is your skin dry? You will know it is dry if it is itching, scaling, cracking or bleeding. It is very uncomfortable. It also makes you look older than you really are.

Fortunately, there are home remedies that you can apply to help alleviate the situation and return moisture to your skin.

1. Drink lots of water

The easiest yet most overlooked solution to dry skin is by drinking at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day. Unless you have a medical condition like diabetes or hypothyroidism, the lack of water in the body usually manifests itself as dry, flaky skin. So, avoid dehydration to avoid dry skin.

2. Adjust your shower temperature

Taking hot showers especially during cold weather can lead to excessively dry skin. It can also damage the surface of the skin. Instead of hot shower, it is better that you take a bath using lukewarm water. It is also recommended that you limit your shower or bath time to 5 to 10 minutes only.

3. Apply moisturiser after washing

Moisturizers can prevent dry skin and help bring back luster and moisture into your skin.

4. Apply natural remedies

There are natural ingredients that you can use on your regular skin care routine to help prevent dry skin. They can also soothe dry and irritated skin. Aloe vera, avocado mask, coconut oil, honey, milk, petroleum jelly, olive oil, sugar scrub and yogurt are just but some of the natural ingredients that you can apply to your skin.

5. Use gentle products

Some skin care products are too harsh on the skin. Just because it smells good does not necessarily mean it is better for your skin. Use gentle and unscented products especially if you have dry, sensitive skin. Gentle products help your skin retain its natural oils.

The same is true with laundry detergents. Some laundry detergents can cause skin irritation. Thus, it is best to choose gentle, fragrant free and hypoallergenic products in washing your clothes.

6. Take Probiotic

Probiotics are live bacteria that is good for you. They are similar to the natural bacteria that we have inside our bodies. Taking probiotics is good for your health. It helps maintain the balance in the digestive system. It also prevents allergies,. It keeps the heart healthy. It is also beneficial to a variety of skin conditions. Probiotics can be found in drinks and foods such as Yakult, yogurt, kimchi, miso, pickles and other fermented dishes.

7. Use a Humidifier

Dry air can cause dry skin because it makes the water in your skin to evaporate quickly. To counter this, you need to increase the humidity level in your home or office. This is the purpose of a humidifier. It helps prevent dry skin and put dampness in the skin by releasing moisture in the air.
