When a family member gets sick, it is not just the sick individual who gets affected, the whole family gets affected as well. Aside from the emotional and psychological stress, it also affects the family lifestyle. Each member of the family plays a specific role. So, the presence of illness disrupts the everyday functioning of the family. For example, if the mother who prepares the meal for the family gets sick, someone else needs to take her place. If the person who gets sick is the head of the family, it may result to economic problems so somebody else needs to take over as the breadwinner.
If the illness is minor, then the changes can only be temporary and everything will go back to normal. However, a long term-illness is the real challenge. In some cases, it brings the family together but for some it becomes the cause of family discords.
So, if you love your family, the best thing that you can do for them is to actually treasure yourself by taking care of your body. Learn to love yourself because you only have one body.
